A special application for a round silo is an agitator tank. The tank holds an emulsion whose viscosity is to be adjusted or maintained with an agitator.
The agitator can be arranged centrally and rigidly or it is arranged eccentrically on a revolving platform. The eccentric arrangement of the paddle shaft results in an angular momentum for the platform, which is mounted on roller bearings. This causes the platform to rotate and repeatedly move the paddle shaft to a new stirring position. In this way the viscosity of the emulsion is kept uniform.
